The Salon Professional Academy Nashville this week began one of its largest classes of future cosmetologists in the local school’s five-year history and one of original founders visited the local school to welcome the new students. Randy Kunkel, a leading salon authority in America, spoke to the new students for about an hour Tuesday, and entertained some tough questions from the group on their first full day at the school.

Kunkel and two Ames, Iowa cosmetology school owners, Mary Lokken and Angie Torgeson, developed the business fundamentals in 2000. These fundamentals are still taught at TSPA’s across America today.

“Your future in cosmetology to own and operate your own business is unlimited as long as you stay focused on a can do attitude,” Kunkel explained to the new class at TSPA, Nashville. “Our concepts allow you to be successful beyond your dreams but those who focus on what they can’t do will not be as successful,” he continued.

The incoming students questioned Kunkel about many of the successful concepts taught at the school and types of questions he fielded pleasantly surprised Kunkel. He was also surprised that four (4) of the new students already have bachelor degrees but are still looking for the job security and opportunity which cosmetology provides.

The Salon Professional Academy strives for the small class environment of 15 students or less. There were 14 students starting this July class.

Kunkel currently serves as a board member and stockholder of Summit Salon Business Center. This company evolved from KRS Consulting, which Kunkel and his wife, Sharon, started in 1993. Sharon is currently Director of Operations for Summit Salon Business Center.
